The first day of the University life started by introduction lectures by different professors, administrators and University officials - and one summarizing word for the day would be: Motivating.
I went to the faculty for medicine and pharmaceutics located at the institution of BMC (Biomedicinskt Centrum) and even though I had visited it before, I got amazed by the size of it. This is going to be the place for almost all of my studies during the years to come and I am really proud to be a part of it.
We got some cool information about the building it-self like; the complex being approx. 100 000 square meters, having 6500 found doors and hosting several thousands of students. Yes I wrote "found doors", as they apparently claimed the complex's basement to be so huge that they yet haven't visited all of the rooms down there. Apparently the BMC also excluded all fire-drills as fires would break out several times a year anyways and that we would get practice there through.
A fun note happened during the last session of the day where a PhD professor was supposed to give us a repetition in Biochemistry! He had brought his fruit flies (on which he had injected a tumor-producing protein) and sent them around the classroom for us to observe. When the girl in front of me got it in her hands the lid to the container popped and the flies escaped. The professor very quickly got hold of mouth protections and told us of the gastronomical issues that could arise by inhaling them. The "fun" part is that we still don't know if this was a joke or not - but I hope for our betters that it was.
I just got home to the temporarily hired apartment for a couple of hours break. Tonight at 18.00 we will head back to the BMC as the senior students wanted to greet us welcome on unofficial times.
